RBI raises the repo rate to 5.50%, its first hike since 2023
The Monetary Policy Committee raised the repo rate by 25 basis points to 5.50% on 7 October 2026 and signalled that further cuts are off the table for now. Floating-rate home and business loan EMIs may rise over the coming months, while bank deposit rates could firm up. Borrowers should review loan tenures, and savers locking in fixed returns may find better rates ahead.
